Gary Martin

Since 1989, I’ve called Sonoma County home, though originally, I am from Sacramento.  After retiring from the wine industry, I have found the time to pursue a long passion of mine in the arts, oil painting. Inspired by celebrated Renaissance artists and their successors, I pursued studies with classically trained artists through both online and in-person classes, as well as various workshops.  

Classical Realism emphasizes the representation of subjects or objects, capturing their essence while maintaining the focus on light shadow and form. The paintings displayed are my own personal journey in this genre of art, cast drawing and painting, portraiture, landscape and still life. Utilizing oil paint and direct observation I strive to express the realistic nature of the subjects and create a sense of place and time.
